Chapter Seven

Matthias stood by the bedroom door, listening to the boisterous voices. He wasn’t sure what was going on. Why did Cash have so many people at his house?

Minzhe, Matthew, and Michaya had talked about protection, but Matthias had gone to Cash’s bedroom before anyone had arrived.

Opening the door, he peeked into the hallway. He nearly slammed it closed when he saw Yukon sitting on the other side as if waiting for him.

No, he wasn’t going to be afraid. So far the dog hadn’t tried to attack him, but Cash had been around the few times Yukon was close.

Mustering up his courage, Matthias opened the door and stepped into the hallway. Yukon’s tongue hung from his mouth, waiting for… Matthias wasn’t sure.

“No!” he shouted when the dog leapt up and pressed his paws into his shoulders. Stumbling backward, Matthias hit the wall under the enormous weight and crumpled to the floor as the three-ton dog licked him.

“Yukon,” Cash called from the other end of the hallway and then whistled. “Come here, buddy.”

Yukon snuffled at Matthias’s neck, gave him one last lick, tongue sliding up his cheek before the dog turned and hurried away.

Matthias lay there, covered in dog slobber. God, the dog needed a serious breath mint.

“I think he’s taken to you.” Cash knelt by Matthias. “He was just greeting you.” His mate tucked long strands of Matthias’s hair behind his ear. “Did he hurt you?”

“I need a shower.” Matthias pushed to his feet. He was covered in dog hair. “And a lint brush.”

Cash chuckled, and as upset as Matthias was with his mate, the sound stole his breath. Hands placed on shoulders, Cash led Matthias back into the bedroom. “Matthew dropped some clothes off.” He pointed to a bag by the door that Matthias hadn’t seen. “Grab a shower and—” Cash shook his head. “Guess I don’t need to fix you anything to eat.”

Matthias was starving but wasn’t sure how to go about asking Cash to share his vein. Now that he knew he had a mate, drinking from anyone else would feel like cheating.

Even if his mate didn’t want to claim him.

“No, I don’t require food,” Matthias said. He grabbed the bag, tossing it on the bed, and riffled through it.

“I’m a little new at this,” Cash admitted.

“I can tell.” Matthias hadn’t meant to sound so curt, but having Cash so close had an intimate effect on his body. As he pulled some clothes from the bag, Matthias tried his best not to look at the tall, muscular, and handsome man.

Cash’s chest pressed into Matthias’s back. Arms wrapped around him. His mate’s warm breath was at his ear. “I was referring to you needing to feed. How often? How much? Is the vein in the wrist your only option?”

Matthias shivered at the sound of Cash’s deep and husky voice. The man talked so low, his pitch containing an almost-growl.

“A few times a week.” Matthias barely got the words out. He was panting, trying to rein in his control.
